As proof, I offer the fact that Heliopolis didn't even have a pre-series category until I asked Lyssa how I should list my story Phase (and as proof that Lyssa rocks, she immediately added the pre-series category). Area 52 still doesn't have one.
In a desperate attempt to rectify this situation, and having been spurred on by
I will also, if anybody takes me up on this challenge, put up a page on my site linking all the results. And you just know that'd be kewl.
So.
Write about Jack walking out of Iraq/Iran with a broken skull, or the day he joined the Air Force, or his last argument with Sara.
Write about Sam's years at the Pentagon or how her relationship with her brother deteriorated or her first date with Jonas Hanson.
Write about how Daniel first developed the idea that the pyramids were connected with aliens, or whether he ever questioned going into archaeology after watching his parents die, or about his visits with Nick Ballard in the mental institution.
Write about Teal'c and his mother first settling on Chulak, or about his first encounter with Bra'tac, or about the day he and Drey'auc agreed to get married.
And then there's George, Janet, either of the Davises, Bra'tac, Jacob, Siler (his first wrench! in his first toy box! when he was two!), even MacKay.
Write something. Anything. Please please please. (And if any of those bunnies appeals to you, feel free to take it.)
If you approve of this challenge, feel free to pimp it wherever you like. I am desperate, yo.
ETA: If nobody takes me up on this I will cry. Sniff.

Aw! Can't have that. ::thinks::

My looking back story is a Jack/Sara, even though I think this fandom has far too much Jack/Sara as it is.
Maybe something else will come to me. I do have an old Sam/Rob that is about Sam's uni days ;)
2004-06-07 07:28 pm (UTC)
I'd say looking back fics are fine as long as most of the story is set in the past. Like A.j.'s Chronology, for example. It takes place in the present (or future) but it's really more about Jack's life before Stargate.
Make sense?
2004-06-09 07:31 pm (UTC)
Or I could just write it and let you decide then ;)
So many half-baked ideas, so little actual brain to write them...
2004-06-07 07:01 pm (UTC)
But my muse is gloating because she's had a how-Janet-was-Jack's-doctor-once-before and-why-he-brought-her-into-the-SGC bunny she's been pimping at me for a while. So... yay! I'll try and stuff.

Bwah! That's the first thing I thought, too--"Oh, no, research." *g* That's the great thing about smut--the research is fun. ;)
2004-06-09 07:33 pm (UTC)
Yes. Hee! "I'm trying to figure out if you can actually get into this position and not fall over. Can I have a volunteer?"
Smut writing is definitely a lab science.

Feel free to say no and if you say yes it doesn't have to be anything fancy -- I'd just like it to look better than my usual minimalist depressive chic.
And you *are* going to write something, right?
2004-06-09 06:59 pm (UTC)
For sure! I'd be honoured! Just give me an idea of what you'd like, and I'll put together a couple of variations for you to pick from. :)
And you *are* going to write something, right?
Um, probably not. I did a pre-Stargate Sam story a couple of months ago and I think that's all I have in me at the moment for this genre. Sorry hon. :(
2004-06-09 08:25 pm (UTC)
Meep. I dunno. My imagination does not tend towards the visual.
Only thing I know is that it can't be shippy, because there will hopefully be other stuff on the page.

Ah well. I'll just take the web page as a consolation prize. :)
2004-06-09 10:08 pm (UTC)
*nods* Well, if you have any favourite caps or images of the characters that'd be a good way to start. :)
2004-06-10 07:30 am (UTC)
Really. I give you free reign. Go nuts. I trust you.

Also: challenge/site/links-page name? Again, I have an idea, but I'd hate to step on your toes.

Great.idea.
P.S. Did my snail-mail even remotely amuse you?
2004-06-08 03:42 pm (UTC)
Also, you are a dork. Of COURSE it amused me. Duh. :P
2004-06-09 03:53 pm (UTC)
And I would love to play the pre-stargate fic game. First I have to eat glass and stick a fork in my eye. (Got a little committee problem.) But then, I'm on it.
I would like to thank you profusely for the only communique today that didn't make me homicidal. You rock.
2004-06-08 12:19 pm (UTC)
I don't suppose this quite fits the bill, though. I'll have to think on it.

But.. .err... I forget what it was.
I bet it was a really good idea as well.
