There is simply not enough backstory in this fandom.

As proof, I offer the fact that Heliopolis didn't even have a pre-series category until I asked Lyssa how I should list my story Phase (and as proof that Lyssa rocks, she immediately added the pre-series category). Area 52 still doesn't have one.

In a desperate attempt to rectify this situation, and having been spurred on by [info]aj, among others, I hereby issue a Stargate backstory challenge. Yes, yes, I do. I don't care if it's ship, slash, gen, drama, parody, action-adventure, long, short, whatever. Just write something that explores the pre-series/pre-movie lives of the characters. And yes, I am prepared to beg.

I will also, if anybody takes me up on this challenge, put up a page on my site linking all the results. And you just know that'd be kewl.

So.

Write about Jack walking out of Iraq/Iran with a broken skull, or the day he joined the Air Force, or his last argument with Sara.

Write about Sam's years at the Pentagon or how her relationship with her brother deteriorated or her first date with Jonas Hanson.

Write about how Daniel first developed the idea that the pyramids were connected with aliens, or whether he ever questioned going into archaeology after watching his parents die, or about his visits with Nick Ballard in the mental institution.

Write about Teal'c and his mother first settling on Chulak, or about his first encounter with Bra'tac, or about the day he and Drey'auc agreed to get married.

And then there's George, Janet, either of the Davises, Bra'tac, Jacob, Siler (his first wrench! in his first toy box! when he was two!), even MacKay.

Write something. Anything. Please please please. (And if any of those bunnies appeals to you, feel free to take it.)

If you approve of this challenge, feel free to pimp it wherever you like. I am desperate, yo.

ETA: If nobody takes me up on this I will cry. Sniff.

That's an excellent challenge and since I'm supposed to be studying for three exams and writing an assignment, I'm sure that I'll have something written by the end of the week. My muse thanks you for the procrastination opportunity.

What a fabulous idea. I've been looking for the right opportunity to venture into the stargate universe. I think I just found it. *G*

If nobody takes me up on this I will cry. Sniff.

Aw! Can't have that. ::thinks::

I have actually two fics going that could semi work for this challenge, both Jack orientated although it is more of a "looking back" thing. If you somehow can convince the muse to finish those...

That brings to mind this question. Is it okay if it is a "looking back"? and may we pimp stories that we've already written?

My looking back story is a Jack/Sara, even though I think this fandom has far too much Jack/Sara as it is.

Maybe something else will come to me. I do have an old Sam/Rob that is about Sam's uni days ;)

Well, I'd rather the stories be new. If/when I do the webpage, I think I'll only link to new ones. (I've got an already-written story I could offer for this challenge, but I'm not going to.) But if you want to pimp it in your own lj with mention of this challenge, that's fine.

I'd say looking back fics are fine as long as most of the story is set in the past. Like A.j.'s Chronology, for example. It takes place in the present (or future) but it's really more about Jack's life before Stargate.

Make sense?

now I'm being one of those annoying kids at the front of the class waving their hands to ask how to spell *every little thing* -- but I was arguing with someone last night about whether this one bunny of mine would count, since it's a post-ep. But it's a post-ep to "1969" and it's in the past.

Or I could just write it and let you decide then ;)

So many half-baked ideas, so little actual brain to write them...

*whines* but backstory often requires *research* and *details* and stuff.

But my muse is gloating because she's had a how-Janet-was-Jack's-doctor-once-before and-why-he-brought-her-into-the-SGC bunny she's been pimping at me for a while. So... yay! I'll try and stuff.

Bwah! That's the first thing I thought, too--"Oh, no, research." *g* That's the great thing about smut--the research is fun. ;)

Yes. Hee! "I'm trying to figure out if you can actually get into this position and not fall over. Can I have a volunteer?"

Smut writing is definitely a lab science.

You so have to write this! I have serious Janet love and need my fic addiction fed. :)

Excellent idea, n. Can't wait to see the results!

Yeah, um, Ness? Sweetie? Would you have any interest in designing a web page for the links? 'Cause you can make it look spiffy in about half the time it would take for me to make it look sucky. :)

Feel free to say no and if you say yes it doesn't have to be anything fancy -- I'd just like it to look better than my usual minimalist depressive chic.

And you *are* going to write something, right?

Would you have any interest in designing a web page for the links?

For sure! I'd be honoured! Just give me an idea of what you'd like, and I'll put together a couple of variations for you to pick from. :)

And you *are* going to write something, right?

Um, probably not. I did a pre-Stargate Sam story a couple of months ago and I think that's all I have in me at the moment for this genre. Sorry hon. :(

Meep. I dunno. My imagination does not tend towards the visual.

Only thing I know is that it can't be shippy, because there will hopefully be other stuff on the page.

Ah well. I'll just take the web page as a consolation prize. :)

Only thing I know is that it can't be shippy, because there will hopefully be other stuff on the page.

*nods* Well, if you have any favourite caps or images of the characters that'd be a good way to start. :)

Um. No. Honestly, I don't. This is why you don't see me making icons and shit. Well, that, and I suck at it. :)

Really. I give you free reign. Go nuts. I trust you.

Heh. Ok then. If you have a specific timeframe involved (for when it needs to be completed, I mean) be sure to tell me. Otherwise I'll start on it in the next couple of days. Already got a couple of possibilities floating around in my head. :)

Also: challenge/site/links-page name? Again, I have an idea, but I'd hate to step on your toes.

This a great idea...I just have to finish the semester and get inspired first. Hmm, Teal'c and Drey'auc...that would be really different for me.

Okay, hi. :) You don't know me, but I saw your challenge pimped on my friend's list. I read it and a bunny popped into my head from nowhere. I haven't written much fanfic, and I wrote this in the wee hours of the morning after having just woke up, so feel free to tell me it's crap. *lol* It's about Sam, and it's angsty, called The Lord is my Shepherd.

Great challenge, btw. I will be pimping it in my next lj entry. :D

Great.idea.

P.S. Did my snail-mail even remotely amuse you?

Ooh, nice quote. And you're going to write something, right? RIGHT?

Also, you are a dork. Of COURSE it amused me. Duh. :P

File this under: I am a big dork. I totally missed that one. Glad you liked. : )

And I would love to play the pre-stargate fic game. First I have to eat glass and stick a fork in my eye. (Got a little committee problem.) But then, I'm on it.

I would like to thank you profusely for the only communique today that didn't make me homicidal. You rock.

That's a good idea.

I don't suppose this quite fits the bill, though. I'll have to think on it.

am here by way of [info]naushika's pimpage. this? is an awesome challenge. i've got a couple of bunnies that might just come out to play for it too, though fair warning, they're both fairly dark.

will add this to my list of challenges to meet this summer.

Heh. Dark is so not a problem for me.

Found this through [info]katie_m's lj. Awesome idea, will get the brain cells working on it. :)

Is there going to be a place that will list all the stories that will have been written.

Cause I would love to read them all and wouldn't have the foggiest idea where to start :)

Yes, there will be a page full of links. Um, at some point. Hopefully soonish.

And hi. :)

Yay!! Can't wait :)

Hi ::waves::

Siler (his first wrench! in his first toy box! when he was two!)

OMG! SO CUTE! <3

Write about Sam's years at the Pentagon or how her relationship with her brother deteriorated or her first date with Jonas Hanson.

Have you seen this?

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Labyrinth/7277/samstory1.html

Yeah, I think I went through all of Noda's stuff way back when I first joined the fandom. I knew her work from Voyager, of course.

found this through pimping on my flist, and, wow. GREAT idea. here's the hoping i can get my act together and participate!

Well, I have something, but it's a crossover with X-Files and it's *looks around* *whispers* femslash. ;)

LOL! Go here

http://pixies-bookshelf.com/fic/archive.asp?clickID=1

and choose "Slash" from the dropdown. It's the first one, "Meeting of Minds", and there's a sequel called "Reunion".

Ooh! I had a bunny!

But.. .err... I forget what it was.

I bet it was a really good idea as well.
